PHONELINT - READ THIS FIRST
===========================

1. WINDOWS WILL WARN YOU THE FIRST TIME YOU RUN IT
--------------------------------------------------

You will see a blue screen saying "Windows protected your PC".

To continue: click More info -> Run anyway

This is expected. It is not a virus warning and nothing was scanned and
found suspicious. SmartScreen shows this for any program whose publisher
it has not seen enough times before, and Phonelint is not yet code-signed.
Signing costs several hundred dollars a year and will be added once the
product has earned it.

If you would rather verify the file yourself, the SHA-256 checksum of this
release is published on the product page. To check it, open PowerShell in
this folder and run:

    Get-FileHash .\Phonelint.exe -Algorithm SHA256

The value it prints should match the one on the product page exactly. If it
does not, do not run the file - email hello@phonelint.com instead.

2. WHAT'S IN THIS FOLDER
------------------------

Phonelint.exe The application. No installer - run it directly.
    np_engine.vault Numbering-plan data (main).
    uk_engine.vault Numbering-plan data (UK).
    nanpa_supplement.vault Extra US coverage. Optional.

Keep all the .vault files in the same folder as the .exe. The app looks for
them there on startup and will tell you if it cannot find them.

The supplement adds 732,477 US number blocks the main file does not carry -
mostly recent mobile allocations. It only fills gaps: every number the app
could already answer gets the same answer as before. If it is missing the
app starts normally with slightly less US coverage. Settings > Database
tells you whether it was found.

3. FIRST RUN
------------

Enter your licence key when prompted. The key activates against one device.
If you need to move to a different machine, use Deregister in the licence
screen first, then activate on the new one.

Local validation is unlimited. There is no per-number fee and no monthly
cap. Optional live enrichment (Twilio / Telnyx / Numverify) uses your own
API account and your own credits - that is the only thing that ever costs
money after purchase.

4. YOUR FILE DOES NOT HAVE TO BE ONE NUMBER PER LINE
----------------------------------------------------

Drop in a spreadsheet export and Phonelint works out the rest: the
encoding, the separator, whether there is a header row, and which column
holds the phone numbers. It reads the numbers out of that column and
ignores the names, emails and dates around them.

It shows you which column it picked, with three example values, and a
drop-down to change it if it guessed wrong. Comma, semicolon, tab and
pipe separated files all work, as do files Excel saves as "CSV UTF-8"
and older Windows exports that are not UTF-8.

Numbers written as +1 (202) 555-1234, "+12025551234", or with an
extension on the end are all read correctly. A cell holding something
that is not a number at all is reported invalid, which is the point.

5. IF SOMETHING IS WRONG
------------------------

Email hello@phonelint.com. Include what you were doing and what the app
said. A 14-day money-back guarantee applies.
